James Britton BaileyPapers 1832-1869

Bailey settled in Texasbefore Stephen F. Austin arrived but was admitted as one of his colonists in1824 and took part in the Battle of Velasco. Papers consist of a volume ofphotostatic copies of Bailey's accounts and documents concerning theadministration of his estate by Joseph Henry Polley, his son-in-law, as well assome of Polley's personal correspondence.

Bailey settled in Texas before Stephen F. Austin arrived but was admitted as one of his colonists in 1824 and took part in the Battle of Velasco. His will requested that he be buried in an upright position facing west, and this request was honored.
